RUSSIA: profitability on accumulative insurance contracts of SBERBANK Life insurance in 2020 amounted to 8%

SBERBANK life insurance, subsidiary of Sberbank, reported that following the results of its investment activities in 2020, the yield on accumulative life insurance contracts (ALI) for ruble-denominated policies was 8% per annum, and for policies denominated in dollars - 3%.

At the end of 2020, the company had 355 thousand of ALI contracts, insurance reserves for which exceeded RUB 139 billion (~EUR 1.53 billion*). 72% of the reserves were placed in long-term government bonds, the rest was invested in corporate bonds, municipal bonds, and deposits.

Despite the record low rates on the Russian market in 2020, the insurer managed to achieve high profitability for clients of 8%, almost twice exceeding the level of the Central Bank's key rate, as well as the average rate on deposits.
