In Azerbaijan, 16 insurance companies collected AZN 277.56 million (~EUR 138.22 million) in January-February 2026, which indicates a 1.3% decrease y-o-y, ABC.AZ reports, citing information from the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA). Paid claims in the reporting period reached AZN 148.8 million (~EUR 74.10 million), a 37% increase y-o-y.

In the first two months of 2026, life insurance premiums rose by 7.46% to AZN 118.31 million. At the same time, paid claims in the segment grew faster, by 44.36%, to AZN 100.75 million.

As a result, the life insurance loss ratio increased from 63.40% in 2025 to 85.17% in 2026. In comparison, life GWP grew by 26.43% in 2025, while paid claims increased by 16.24%.

In January-February 2026, Azerbaijan saw growth in the motor insurance market. According to ABC.AZ, citing the CBA, motor insurance GWP totaled AZN 38.3 million in the reporting period, 2.8% more y-o-y. Of these, AZN 27 million came from compulsory insurance, and AZN 11.3 million - from voluntary insurance.

Paid claims in the segment grew at a faster pace - in the first two months of 2026, motor insurance paid claims reached AZN 31.9 million (+30.3% y-o-y). Of these, AZN 26.2 million were paid in compulsory insurance, and AZN 5.7 million – in voluntary insurance.

Experts note that the faster growth of paid claims compared to premiums may be due to the increasing number of road accidents or larger size of damages. This trend also indicates rising insurance company expenses.

According to the CBA, PASHA Life paid the largest amount on the market in the first two months of this year, totaling AZN 86 million, followed by PASHA with total claims of AZN 24.77 million, and Ateshgah Life with AZN 12.48 million.
