AZERBAIJAN: Insurance sector assets rise 4.5% in the first half of the year

Insurance sector assets grew by 4.5% in the first half of 2025, reaching AZN 2.14 billion (~EUR 1.07 billion). Government securities make up the largest share - 40% of assets (AZN 856 million), followed by bank funds (28% or AZN 600 million), ABC.AZ reports, citing Central Bank data.

Insurers' liabilities increased by 7.3% in the first half of the year, reaching AZN 1.55 billion. Insurance reserves accounted for 73% of liabilities.

The investment portfolio of insurance companies increased by 5.6% in 1H2025 compared to the end of last year, reaching AZN 1,772 million. It is noted that the investment portfolio growth was primarily due to cash in banks (AZN 205 million) and non-government securities (AZN 102 million).

Overall, the investment portfolio accounts for 92% of life insurance assets and 73% of non-life insurance assets.

In the first half of 2025, the insurance sector earned AZN 55 million from investment activities, which is 7.15% of total revenue, the source writes.
