BELARUS: Declaration of intent to develop Belarusian-Chinese relations in the insurance sector was signed during a business visit

Belarusian insurers are entering the Chinese market - the first practical step on this path was a business visit of the BAS (Belarusian Association of Insurers) delegation to China, Dalian, on October 14-19, 2024.

The magazine "Insurance in Belarus" notes that the model of cooperation with Chinese colleagues has its own specifics - on the one hand, high digitalization of business, automation of product certification processes, payment systems, logistics chains, etc., and on the other hand, important decisions are still made only during personal communications between top officials with mandatory observance of ancient ceremonial traditions: it is important to meet with a future partner in person.

In order to develop cooperation and collaboration between insurance companies of the two countries, BAS Director General Irina Merzlyakova signed the Dalian Initiative – a framework document, a declaration of intent to develop Belarusian-Chinese relations in the insurance sector. The initiative provides for mutual assistance, creation of working groups, training specialists in insurance innovations, and sharing experience.

“Chinese partners are gradually increasing their presence in our country, and as a result the demand for insurance services is growing”, Irina Merzlyakova emphasized. “Close industrial cooperation is logically followed by the need to develop joint infrastructure in the insurance sector. This is required by all LoBs that are popular with both Belarusians and Chinese: cargo transportation, tourism, reinsurance, and much more. I hope that the Dalian Initiative will become a starting point for active interpenetration of the insurance markets of Belarus and China”, she added.
