BELARUS: paid claims for insurance against accidents and illnesses during trips abroad increased by 23% y-o-y

According to the Belarusian Association of Insurers, from January to September 2019, local insurers paid almost BYN 9 million (~USD 4.5 million) for insurance against accidents and illnesses during travelling abroad, which is 23% more y-o-y, said the association in its press release.

Besides the higher aggregated value of claims paid, the total number of fatal accidents grew up significantly - for the first 9 months ended this year 49 cases were registered by insurers (vs. 32 cases at the end of January - December 2018, and 29 cases in 2017 for the full year as well).

Among the countries leading in terms of the number of insurance claims, Belarusian insurers noted Egypt, Bulgaria, Turkey, Poland and Russia as destinations with the highest frequency of accidents and illnesses. The most common causes for medical treatments were given for poisoning, followed in the second place by tonsillitis, bronchiolitis and pneumonia, in the third place by various kinds of injuries, while in the fourth place for heart attacks, high blood pressure, etc.
