BULGARIA: The assets of the insurance sector rise 9.5% y-o-y at the end of March

The assets managed by Bulgarian insurance companies amounted to BGN 11.76 billion (EUR 6.01 billion) at the end of March, which means a y-o-y increase of 9.5%, SeeNews writes with reference to the central bank.

As the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) said in a quarterly insurance sector report, compared to the end of 2024, assets managed by Bulgarian insurers increased by 2.2%.

The assets of non-life companies grew by 9.1% on the year to about BGN 8.34 billion at the end of March, which represents 70.9% of total insurance assets.

At the same time, the assets of life insurance companies increased by 10.4% to BGN 3.43 billion and accounted for 29.1% of overall assets.

It is noted that as of end-March, securities other than shares accounted for 46.5% of insurance companies' assets, down from 48.3% a year earlier. The share of equities rose to 26.4% from 24.2%, while receivables from insurance operations edged up to 7.1% from 6.9% over the same period.

There were 47 insurance companies active in Bulgaria at the end of March, two more than at the same time last year. Of those, there were 12 life insurers and 35 non-life companies, the source writes.
