BULGARIA: Total assets of the insurance sector rise 11% at the end of September

Total assets managed by Bulgarian insurance companies amounted to some BGN 12.57 billion (EUR 6.43 billion) at the end of September, which represents an annual increase of 11.3%, SeeNews writes citing the central bank.

Compared to the second quarter of 2025, assets managed by Bulgarian insurers grew by 4.5%, the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) said in a quarterly insurance sector report.

The assets of non-life companies increased by 11.5% y-o-y to some BGN 8.91 billion at the end of September. This represented a share of 70.8% of total insurance assets. At the same time, the assets of life insurance companies increased by 11% y-o-y to some BGN 3.67 billion and accounted for a share of 29.2% of overall assets.

As of the end of September, securities other than shares accounted for 45.9% of insurance companies' assets, down from 47.5% a year earlier. The share of equities reached 26% from 25.7%, while receivables from insurance operations edged up to 7.6% of insurance companies' assets from 7.5% in the prior-year period.

It is noted that there were 47 insurance companies active in Bulgaria at the end of September. Of those, there were 12 life insurers and 35 non-life insurance companies.
