CROATIA: claims paid in 2024 up by 8.3% vs. 2023; motor claims account for 61% of the non-life compensations

In 2024, Croatian insurers paid out a total of EUR 1.3 billion in claims, 8.3% up y-o-y, HANFA, the market authority, said. On an annual basis, the total collected premium increased by 9.9%, 11.2% for non-life and 4.2% for life insurance. The total premium collected amounted to EUR 1.9 billion

Non-life insurance claims accounted for EUR 821.3 million (65.2%), reflecting an annual growth of 10.5%, while life insurance claims totaled EUR 437.8 million (34.8%), increasing by 4.3% year-on-year.

Among non-life insurance claims, the largest payouts were recorded in:

  • Motor vehicle liability insurance – EUR 327 million (39.8%)
  • Road vehicle insurance – EUR 175 million (21.3%)
  • Other property insurance – EUR 79 million (9.6%)
  • Fire and natural disaster insurance – EUR 70 million (8.5%)
The rise in claims payments highlights growing compensation demands, particularly in motor and property insurance segments, amid evolving risk factors.
