Czechia: 10 insurance companies have already joined the "right to be forgotten" standard for oncology patients

16 May 2024 — Daniela GHETU

Ten insurance companies have already voluntarily signed up to the self-regulatory standard set up by the Czech Association of Insurance Companies (CAP) in November 2023 regarding equal access to persons who have experienced cancer.

With the help of a unique study mapping the success of oncology treatment in the Czech Republic, insurance companies will be able to more accurately assess the risk of patients and set an individual term of "forgetfulness" for specific diagnoses.

"The discussion showed us that there were several barriers that needed to be broken down with the help of the standard. It was a lack of information about which oncological diseases insurance companies insure and how and which cured diseases they approach. The fear of rejection and, last but not least, the more complicated process of acceptance into insurance also played a role. Under the new standard, we all went through a very useful process with a successful outcome. The long-term task of life insurance companies is to cover risks and insure as widely as possible, and that is why I fully believe that the changes associated with the standard are already bringing the first concrete positive results," comments the Executive Director of the Czech Insurance Association, Jan MATOUŠEK.

Member insurance companies of the Czech Association of Insurance Companies voluntarily joined to comply with the standard: Allianz pojišťovna, Generali Česká pojišťovna, BNP Paribas Cardif Pojišťovna, Česká podnikatská pojišťovna, Kooperativa, MAXIMA, KB pojišťovna, ČSOB pojišťovna, NN Životní pojišťovna, SV pojišťovna. They also set up contact e-mail addresses intended for communication with patient organizations, where they are ready to deal with the issue in a specialized manner. E-mail addresses were also established by the insurance companies Simplea, UNIQUA, YOUPLUS.
