ESTONIA: EKsL: over 80% of Estonian homes are insured

10 March 2025 — Marina MAGNAVAL
According to the Estonian Insurance Association (EKsL), 472,000 home insurance contracts were concluded in Estonia last year. According to Ülli Reimets, head of loss prevention department at EKsL, over 80% of Estonian homes are insured.

“The number of home insurance contracts has increased in recent years, and it can be said that the level of home insurance is good. Home property is insured more willingly than liability. However, the problem with both property and liability insurance is that the insurance amount in the contract often does not cover all the damage in the event of an accident”, said Reimets.

In 2024, the average insurance amount for home property insurance was EUR 31,000, and the average liability insurance amount was EUR 27,000.

It is noted that in 2024, insurance companies compensated EUR 59 million for home insurance losses, including EUR 9 million for house contents. The total loss from home liability insurance was EUR 4 million, the Association added.
