GEORGIA: Vehicle owners may be required to purchase third-party liability insurance

27 January 2025 — Marina MAGNAVAL
According to the Chairman of Insurance State Supervision Service of Georgia David Onoprishvili, vehicle owners in Georgia may be required to purchase third-party liability insurance. This project will be submitted to parliament immediately after the opening of the spring session, will be adopted before July 1, 2025, and will enter into force on January 1, 2026, Sputnik Georgia reports.

It is noted that introduction of new insurance rules that will make motor insurance more convenient has been discussed in Georgia over the past few years. As of today, only foreigners entering Georgia are required to insure their vehicles; for Georgian citizens, insurance is voluntary.

"The new draft law has already been fully prepared and approved by the government. It was discussed with various ministries, and their comments were taken into account", said David Onoprishvil.
