8 April 2026 — Daniela GHETU

The International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) announced the appointment of Gerry Cross as its next Secretary General, effective 15 June 2026. He will lead the IAIS Secretariat and support the IAIS Executive Committee in advancing the IAIS’ strategic priorities and workplan, aimed at ensuring effective and globally consistent supervision of the insurance sector.

Gerry brings nearly 30 years’ experience in financial services and regulation to the IAIS. He will join the Association from the Central Bank of Ireland, where he currently serves as Director, Capital Markets and Funds, leading a directorate of 220 staff. Prior to this, he held the role of Director of Financial Regulation Policy and Risk.

Gerry has extensive experience working with international organizations. He served on the IAIS Executive Committee from 2019-2024, was a Member of the Board of Supervisors of the European Banking Authority (EBA), and an Alternate Member of the Board of Supervisors of the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA). He currently serves as a Member of the Board of Supervisors of the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA).

“Gerry Cross has served as a financial regulator for many years and has held several roles within the broader financial sector during his career. He brings a strong record of leadership, addressing challenging issues and working collaboratively,” said Toshiyuki Miyoshi, Chair of the IAIS Executive Committee. “With Gerry’s demonstrated experience and commitment to international cooperation, the IAIS is well-positioned to continue delivering on its strategic priorities.”

Gerry Cross will succeed Jonathan Dixon, who has served as Secretary General since 2017. Jonathan will remain with the IAIS as Special Advisor to Gerry until August 2026 to ensure a smooth transition.

The IAIS Executive Committee expressed its appreciation to Jonathan for his tremendous contributions as Secretary General over the past nine years. During his tenure, Jonathan helped the IAIS deliver on a number of major projects, elevated the standing of the Association and fostered the culture and professionalism within the Secretariat. “On behalf of the entire IAIS community, I would like to thank Jonathan for the dedication and leadership he has provided to both the Secretariat and our members. We wish him the very best for the future,” said Toshiyuki Miyoshi.

The key responsibilities of the IAIS Secretary General include driving the strategic and operational activities of the IAIS in close collaboration with its members and under the guidance of the Executive Committee, providing leadership to the IAIS Secretariat team and representing the IAIS on the global stage.
