HUNGARY: MABISZ: Satisfaction with insurance companies is stabilizing at a high level

According to a survey conducted this year by Századvég, more than four-fifths of customers are satisfied with the work of insurance companies, the Association of Hungarian Insurers (MABISZ) said.

At the request of the Association, Századvég has been conducting a customer opinion survey on the insurance sector since 2015. According to the Insurer Trust Index, the level of trust in insurers is 50.5 points on a scale from 0 to 100. Essentially, this is the same result as last year, which means that over half of the population trusts insurance companies. It is noted that in the past three years, levels remain above levels measured before 2018.

At the same time, the overall satisfaction index with insurance companies appears to be stabilizing at a very high level. Since the 2021 survey, satisfaction with each type of insurance has exceeded 80 points, which is considered a positive result. Most people are satisfied with life insurance and pension insurance, and least of all with MoD.

The trend that the country's passenger vehicle fleet is particularly old seems to be continuing this year. Nearly two-thirds of the population who own a car have cars that are more than ten years old. Most car owners still do not purchase MoD insurance, which is mainly justified by the age of the car, but there are those who refer to the price or to the fact that mandatory insurance is enough.

Every fifth adult Hungarian resident spends less than HUF 5,000 per month on insurance, almost a quarter of them spend HUF 5,000-10,000, one in five respondents said they spend HUF 10,000-20,000 per month, and 14.3% spend between HUF 20,000-50,000 per month on insurance.

Nearly 40% of the respondents would change insurers if they were offered a more favorable rate, and a quarter of them would be motivated to change in case of bad claim settlement experience, the Association added.
