The “Leadership Role of Companies in the Future” panel was chaired by the NTV Journalist Noyan Doğan. Panelists discussed about the perspectives of the insurance sector for the next decades, touching topics as the sustainable competition, long-term structuring of the sector, challenges and opportunities, role and impact of distribution agents etc. The contributors to the panek were Yavuz ÖLKEN, General Manager, AXA; Şenol ORTAÇ, General Manager, Hepiyi Sigorta; Murat ŞİŞLİ, General Manager, CORPUS and Doç. Dr. Özgür AKPINAR.
Şenol ORTAÇ, the General Manager of Hepiyi Insurance, emphasized that the industry is a rapidly evolving and expansive sector. He stated: "Hence, it is a sector with intense competition. However, it does not have a very long history in Turkey. The number of companies is almost the same as when I first entered the industry, and in fact, it is not increasing; it is decreasing. The industry cannot grow properly because free-market competition is not functioning correctly in Turkey. For this reason, the legislator must definitely put into effect laws that prevent unfair competition.”
Murat ŞIŞLI, General Manager, Corpus Sigorta stated in his speech that one of the most current problems in the sector is assurance, and said, "For the sector to progress healthily, it is crucial to thoroughly assess the environment it operates in. For instance, in Turkey, the primary risk is earthquakes, and secondary risks should be addressed subsequently. Companies wanting to invest in a world where interest rates and capital have increased significantly consider this as their first priority. They evaluate such risks and make investments accordingly. For the establishment of a free market and fair competition, insurance companies must have studied their lessons very well. It is essential for companies to convey that they have a strong team supporting the insured," he emphasized.
Drawing attention to the changing world with the evolution of technology in his speech, Kasım YILMAZ, General Manager of Koru Insurance, asked, "What will happen to the industry with companies that effectively use technology, follow the philosophy of ruthless capitalism, and consequently create unfair competition? These need to be strictly regulated by laws. In fact, the ethical dimension of this matter should also be considered. We need to establish a data constitution. In other words, we need to liberate the consumer without limiting them. It is necessary to be supportive."
TSB Deputy Secretary General Balkır DEMIRKIRAN stressed out the instrumental role of capital management for the future of the insurance industry, especially as Türkiye is a fast growing market. “If capital management is not done well, huge problems will arise in the sector,” he said.
