KAZAKHSTAN: The number of concluded insurance contracts in February up by almost 41% y-o-y

In February 2025, the assets of the insurance sector increased by 1.0% to KZT 3.2 trillion (~EUR 6.08 billion), while the growth of assets since the beginning of 2025 amounted to 3.5% mainly as a result of the growth of income from insurance activities, the Agency for Regulation and Development of Financial Market of Kazakhstan reports.

As of March 1, 2025, securities had for the largest share in the asset structure - 73.5% (KZT 2.4 trillion).

Total liabilities of the insurance sector in February 2025 increased to KZT 2.3 trillion (since the beginning of 2025, the growth was 4.6%) driven by the growth of insurance reserves.

In February 2025, insurance organizations received a loss of KZT 3.3 billion, mainly due to negative revaluation of foreign currency in the amount of KZT 30.3 billion.

The number of insurance contracts concluded for individuals and legal entities in February 2025 amounted to 4.1 million units, which is 40.9% more y-o-y, mainly supported by accident insurance.

GWP in February 2025 amounted to KZT 127.0 billion. At the same time, since the beginning of 2025, total GWP has risen by 23.8% y-o-y to KZT 281.7 billion. Voluntary personal insurance in January-February 2025 reached KZT 131.5 billion, which is 48.4% more y-o-y. The growth is mainly due to a two-fold increase in accident insurance and a 1.9-fold increase in pension annuity insurance. Voluntary property insurance since the beginning of 2025 has reached KZT 18.7 billion (+42.2%). Compulsory insurance in January-February amounted to KZT 42.8 billion (+14.1%). The growth is mainly due to an increase in civil liability insurance of vehicle owners (+29.4%).

Paid claims in February 2025 amounted to KZT 28.6 billion, and since the beginning of 2025 – KZT 61.0 billion, which is 42.1% more than for the same period in 2024.

According to the Agency, as of March 1, 2025, the insurance sector of the Republic of Kazakhstan was represented by 25 insurance organizations, including 10 life insurers.
