KAZAKHSTAN: demand for voluntary motor insurance is growing amid a rapid increase in traffic accidents and repair costs

25 June 2025 — Marina MAGNAVAL
In January-April of this year, 9.2 thousand traffic accidents were registered in Kazakhstan, which is 51.5% more y-o-y. The number of victims increased by 62.1% and reached 13.1 thousand people, according to the Committee on Legal Statistics and Special Accounts of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

According to Allinsurance.kz, the situation on roads in 2025 raises serious concerns. There is a rapid increase in the number of road accidents, as well as an increase in prices of both cars and repairs. Over the past year, the cost of car maintenance and repairs has increased by 13.3%, which is higher than the annual inflation rate of 10.7%. Compared to December 2020, service station services have risen in price by almost 60%. The cost of cars has increased by 10.9% over the years.

At the same time, insurance shows relatively restrained growth. As of the end of April 2025, motor insurance rates increased by only 6.5%, and the average Motor Hull price even decreased by 12.2%. This makes voluntary motor insurance increasingly relevant and economically justified.

The demand for Motor Hull in Kazakhstan continues to grow. In 2023-2024, total GWP in this segment reached a record KZT 226.2 billion (~EUR 0.41 billion), which exceeds total GWP of the previous eight years. In 2025, growth continues: in the first four months, Motor Hull GWP reached KZT 27.9 billion (~EUR 48.09 million). This means that more and more drivers are purchasing insurance coverage, the source added.
