18 December 2019 —
According to the Ministry of Health of Kazakhstan, the country is ready to introduce mandatory social health insurance, 97% of the population already being updated in the databases, allinsurance.kz reports.

"As of today, 97% of the population has been updated in the databases, and we have all the information online about social statuses of our citizens, except for 3%, this is about 550 thousand people. We see them in the databases of individuals, but they do not reside for the moment at their addresses. Many of them left abroad. Until the end of the year we'll continue to update social statuses. We expect that next year, within the framework of the mandatory social health insurance system, as citizens will ask for medical assistance, we'll update their social statuses. But 97% of the citizens today are already updated, and it means high level of being prepared for their involvement into the system", said Yelzhan BIRTANOV, the Minister.

According to the Ministry, as of January 1, 2020, about 88.1% of the population will be already considered as insured. The remaining 12% of the citizens will be able to participate in the system as independent payers. From legal point, the right to get free medical assistance and the obligation to pay premiums will be introduced from April 1, 2020, and citizens, who will pay premiums at least once from January to March, will be entitled to free medical services, Forbez.kz explained.
