KYRGYZSTAN: Investments into financial intermediation and insurance increased by 29.6% y-o-y

In the first half of 2020, the inflow of foreign direct investment decreased 2.4 times y-o-y, to USD 164.4 million, according to the National Statistical Committee of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The bulk of the foreign direct investments (83%) was made into manufacturing enterprises, geological exploration, financial intermediation and insurance, information, and communications, as well as wholesale and retail trade. It should be noted that the volume of investments directed to financial intermediation and insurance increased by 29.6% y-o-y, while investments in other sectors dropped.

The outflow of foreign direct investments for the period increased by 2.2 times y-o-y, to almost USD 604 million. The uptrend in investment outflow was observed from enterprises of all types of business activities, except for agriculture, electricity and gas supply, financial intermediation and insurance, as well as other servicing activity, according to the Committee.
