MOLDOVA: 98% of all active policies at the end of September 2024 are non-life insurance

According to data provided by the National Bank of Moldova, as of September 30, 2024, the number of active insurance policies in Moldova amounted to 1.31 million units, which is 1.8% more than at the end of the previous quarter.

At the same time, 98% of the total number of active policies refer to non-life insurance and only 2% to life insurance, bizlaw.md writes.

In non-life GWP collected over 9 months of 2024, MTPL (including domestic MTPL and Green Card policies), Motor Hull, fire and allied perils together account for 80.5%. The remaining insurance classes account for less than MDL 122 million or 5.2% each.

The average premium for domestic MTPL for the first 9 months of 2024 amounted to MDL 1,438 per policy, which is 0.9% more y-o-y. The average premium on Green Card policies for the same period amounted to MDL 1,092.7 per policy, or 4.4% less y-o-y, the source added, citing the NBM data.
