19 March 2026 — Marina MAGNAVAL
The government will continue to cover 70% of agricultural insurance premiums through the National Fund for Agriculture and Rural Development. This decision was adopted by the Cabinet of Ministers in early March, bizlaw reports.

Insurance premiums in the agricultural sector are subsidized by the National Fund for Agriculture and Rural Development. Consequently, farmers pay a share of the premium amounting to 30%.

In 2025, AIPA (the Agency for Agricultural Interventions and Payments) allocated MDL 110.4 million to cover 70% of premiums for agricultural risk insurance, while the amount allocated for 2026 stands at approximately MDL 120 million (~EUR 6 million).

The government asserts that data from 2022–2024 indicate a positive trend in agricultural insurance: GWP increased from MDL 93.2 million to MDL 129 million. The total insured amount rose from MDL 974.2 million in 2022 to over MDL 1.39 billion in 2024, while paid claims ranged from MDL 44 million to MDL 57 million.
