GRAWE Romania ready to enter the motor insurance segment

The insurance company GRAWE Romania, part of GRAWE Group, announced earlier this year its intention to enter the MTPL and Motor Hull insurance segments. The company filed the required authorization documentations and it is currently waiting for the approval of Romania's Financial Supervisory Authority (ASF).

STATISTICS: CEE 3Q2015: Mixed results for the Unit-Linked life insurance business

While the overall regional life insurance GWP went down by 3.4%, driven by the negative trend recorded in Poland and the Czech Republic, the Unit-Linked segment saw an almost 2% increase in GWP, to EUR 4.7 billion. However, across the region there are huge differences in the trends recorded in various countries.

STATISTICS: CEE 3Q2015: Czech and Polish markets account for over 70% of the regional GTPL business

GTPL insurance accounted for 4.4% of the CEE overall portfolio, a share fairly unchanged as compared with the line's weight 12 months before. In 3Q2015, GWP for this class went up by 5.3%, to EUR 1.06 billion, with most of the additional premium volume coming, in absolute terms, from the Czech market.

The Top 50 rankings of the life and non-life insurance companies in the CEE are probably the most evident proof of difference in size among the Polish market and the rest of the CEE markets. Thus, the Polish companies are obviously dominating the top part of the rankings: Top 5 on the life insurance segment and Top 3 on the non-life side are entirely Polish.

VERISK releases industry's first cyber exposure data standard

VERISK Analytics announced that it has released the industry's first global cyber exposure data standard. This standard will help create a uniform method for data transfer across the insurance value chain. Verisk's catastrophe modeling business AIR Worldwide has also developed a preparer's guide to assist companies in collecting and storing the necessary cyber exposure data in an open format suitable for modeling.

ZURICH expects Q4 losses in General Insurance business

ZURICH Insurance Group expects its General Insurance business to record a business operating loss in the fourth quarter 2015 due to natural catastrophe claims, including those related to recent storms and floods in the UK and Ireland, and a significant level of large losses. "Operating results for Farmers and Global Life should be in line with expectations, and the Group's capital position remains very strong across all key metrics", the ZURICH representatives pointed out.

ALLIANZ to buy commercial P&C portfolio from AEGON

AEGON the Netherlands announced the sale of its commercial line non-life business to ALLIANZ Benelux. This portfolio has two parts: the active commercial portfolio with a total volume of about EUR 90 million and two run-off portfolios: authorized agents and co-insurance. With this transaction, ALLIANZ'S P&C market share in the Netherlands will rise from 4.4% to 5.0%.

In reinsurance, the problem will be the decreasing of the investors' interest for this segment due to high competition and the reduction of margins in this business, or due to the changes of stock value of insurers that also lead to an outflow of capital from the insurance segment. But, as I see this will not be associated with any natural disaster, instead will be a stock factor, or a decrease of investor interest for this segment.
