On February 2nd 2016, the Insurance Distribution Directive (IDD) was published in the Official Journal (OJ) of the EU. The publication in the OJ follows the official signature of the IDD on January 20th, 2016 by the Presidents of the Council and of the European Parliament.

Insurance Europe: Proposed KID will not allow meaningful comparison of investment products

The content and presentation of the key information document (KID) for packaged retail and insurance-based investment products (PRIIPs), which has been proposed by the European supervisory authorities (ESAs), will make it difficult for consumers to compare investment products, including insurance-based investments, according to Insurance Europe, the European insurance and reinsurance federation.

STATISTICS: ALBANIA, FY2015: Rapid growth driven exclusively by the MTPL line

2015 ended for the Albanian insurance market with GWP of EUR 102.6 million, 23.7% up y-o-y and a total amount of paid claims of EUR 26.5 million, almost 31% up y-o-y.

STATISTICS: BiH, FY2015: steady growth fueled by the MTPL line

The Bosnian insurance market saw a 4.7% y-o-y growth, to GWP of EUR 301 million, while paid claims remained fairly stable at the previous year's level, of EUR 128 million. It is however interesting to observe that the strongest contribution to the market growth belonged to insurers from the smallest administrative entity of the country, the Republica Srpska.

TRIGLAV continues to support the improvement of road safety in SLOVENIA

Zavarovalnica TRIGLAV and the A.s.K. ( Aktivna signalizacija Korun) have announced the extension of the "Working together to improve road safety in Slovenia" campaign for 2016. Up to 12 dangerous sections throughout Slovenia will be equipped with the COPS@road smart warning system, and the selected municipalities will receive co-financing of up to EUR 5,000 from Zavarovalnica TRIGLAV.

Establishment of the single Financial Market Supervisory Body announced in AZERBAIJAN

STATISTICS: KAZAKHSTAN, FY 2015: Market returns on the ascending path

Despite the worsening economic situation of the country, in 2015 local insurance companies were able to return to growth in GWP as compared with the previous decrease by 4.64% in 2014. Thus, in the analyzing period, the GWP reported by insurers totaled KZT 288 billion, up by 8%.

HUNGARY: AXA to sell its banking unit to OTP Bank

AXA announced that it has entered into an agreement to sell its Hungarian banking operations to OTP Bank. The French Group expects that the sale will result in an EUR 80 million loss in net income. In this regard, "a provision was booked in the Group consolidated financial statements as of December 31, 2015", AXA officials pointed out in a statement.

MUNICH Re posts profit of EUR 3.1 billion for 2015 and raises dividend to EUR 8.25

Despite a difficult market environment, MUNICH Re posted a consolidated result of EUR 3.1 billion for 2015 - which almost matched the very good result of EUR 3.2 billion from the previous year. Shareholders are to participate in last year's success through a much higher dividend: subject to approval by the Supervisory Board and Annual General Meeting, the dividend will rise to EUR 8.25 (7.75) per share.

The European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA) announced its Board of Supervisors has re-elected Peter BRAUMULLER, Managing Director at the Austrian Financial Market Authority (FMA), as EIOPA's Alternate Chair for a period of five years. Peter BRAUMULLER will continue to deputise for the Chairman of EIOPA, Gabriel BERNARDINO, who has been reappointed for a further five years.
