STATISTICS: MONTENEGRO, FY2016: Austrian and Slovene insurers lead the market rankings

The Montenegrin market reported a 4.2% y-o-y growth in FY2016 GWP, to EUR 80.1 million, according to the preliminary figures published on the ISA's web-site. The non-life insurance segment had the largest contribution to the aggregate figure, reporting GWP of EUR 66.5 million (83% of total GWP), while the life sector accounted for the remaining 17%, or EUR 13.7 million.

STATISTICS: KOSOVO: +3% in FY2016 GWP, supported by the double-digit growth rate in voluntary classes

Last year, the Kosovo insurance market totaled EUR 81.2 million, or 3.1% more y-o-y, according to the figures published by the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo (CBK). At the same time, the volume of paid claims by local insurers remained about at the 2015 level: EUR 39 million.

STATISTICS: UPDATE: KAZAKHSTAN, FY2016: Market return to growth, up by 24%; statistical sheet now available

FY2016 saw a spectacular GWP boost in the Kazakh market, by 24%, as compared with FY2015 when insurers struggled to return on the growth path, achieving a 8% growth after the fall of 4.64% seen in FY2014.
By insurance lines, to the positive evolution have contributed MTPL (+23%), property insurance (+24%), voluntary insurance of civil liability (+88%), compulsory insurance of worker against accidents (+27%), sickness (+11%).

ADRIS denies being interested by the DUNAV Osiguranje privatization

Croatian diversified conglomerate Adris Grupa, owner of the control stake in CROATIA Osiguranje, on Wednesday denied local media reports that it is looking to acquire Serbian state-owned insurer Dunav Osiguranje, reports SeeNews. A Group's spokesperson qualified the information as "a speculation".

ALLIANZ to take the full control of ALLIANZ-Irish Life

German insurance group ALLIANZ is to acquire the remaining stake in ALLIANZ-Irish Life Holdings (AILH) for EUR 160 million, as the insurer announced in a press release. Currently ALLIANZ holds a 66.5% in AIHL and will pay CANADA Life and other shareholders about EUR 20.68 each for their shares under the agreement supported by the largest minority shareholder - CANADA Life.

MMC reports FY2016 revenue growth of 3%

MARSH & McLENNAN Companies (MMC) reported for the year 2016 consolidated revenues of USD 13.2 billion, an increase of 2% compared with 2015, or 3% on an underlying basis. Net income attributable to the Company was up 11% to USD 1.8 billion, and earnings per share rose 13% to USD 3.38. Adjusted earnings per share increased 12% to USD 3.42 compared with USD 3.05 in 2015.

ZURICH Group's operating profit up 55% following GRECO's costs cut policy; no comment on the Group's possible interest in Italian GENERALI

ZURICH Insurance Group (ZURICH) today reported a business operating profit (BOP) for the full-year 2016 of USD 4.5 billion, up 55% y-o-y. Net income attributable to shareholders (NIAS) was up 74% at USD 3.2 billion, driven by improved profitability in General Insurance and continued growth in Global Life and Farmers.

HANNOVER Re raises 2017 guidance following January renewals

German reinsurer HANNOVER Re raised its 2017 net income guidance to more than EUR 1 billion from more than EUR 950 million following the strong January renewals. Despite continued price pressure, HANNOVER Re declared its satisfaction with the outcome of the renewals, underlining that premium volume had grown by 7%, including its structured reinsurance business.

MUNICH Re posts profit of EUR 2.6 billion for 2016; technical results affected by the major claims expedinture in the 4th quarter

MUNICH Re posted a consolidated result of EUR 2.6 billion for 2016, thus meeting its profit target of "well over EUR 2.3 billion", the Group's representatives have recently stated. The operating result amounted to EUR 4.0 billion, less by EUR 0.8 billion as compared with the previous year. The lower technical result and the costs of the ERGO Strategy Programme were partly offset by gratifying investment and currency translation results.
