PAID is preparing to effectively handle a major earthquake in Romania

PAID Romania - the national pool for disaster insurance -, is prepared to successfully assist the mandatory household policy owners in case a major earthquake will hit the country. Currently the PAID portfolio numbers 1.7 million mandatory household insurance policies PAD, covering about 20% of the Romanian housing stock.

TRIGLAV Group: 2016 financial targets exceeded; improved international ratings

According to unaudited data, the TRIGLAV Group generated a profit before tax of EUR 95 million (planned at between EUR 80 million and EUR 90 million) and achieved an 11.4% return on equity in the reporting period. The business results above the planned target level were primarily the result of a very successful performance in the insurance business, whereas the unfavourable situation in financial markets had a negative impact, a Group's press release reads.

STATISTICS: AZERBAIJAN: The two PASHA units, ATESHGAH subsidiaries and the State insurer AZERSIGORTA dominate the market

At the end of December 2016, Azerbaijan's 25 insurance companies reported aggregate gross written premiums of AZN 486 million (EUR 260 million), which is 9.7% more than in 2015. Claims paid by the local insurers totaled AZN 237 million (EUR 127 million), up by 32% y-o-y.

Greece, FY2016: 4.6% y-o-y increase in the overall premium income

According to a recent press release of the Hellenic Association of Insurance Companies (HAIC), the Greek insurance market saw a 4.6% y-o-y increase in the overall premium income in 2016, to EUR 3.78 billion. The result takes into consideration the 56 insurance undertakings HAIC members, representing approximately 97.1% of total premium income.

HANNOVER Re bets on profitability and reports net income exceeding the 2016 target

With Group net income of EUR 1.17 billion HANNOVER Re has comfortably surpassed its target for the 2016 financial year. "Another strong underwriting result in property and casualty reinsurance combined with pleasing investment income laid the foundation", Chief Executive Officer Ulrich Wallin noted.

UNIQA Group: FY 2016 earnings target achieved

The Austrian insurer UNIQA reported earnings before taxes (EBT) of EUR 225.5 million at the end of 2016, "slightly better than anticipated despite the disposal of the Italian business". At the same time, the value of premiums written dropped 3.1% to EUR 5.04 billion "as a result of the significant decrease in capital-intensive single premiums".

She takes over this role from Andrew TUNNICLIFFE, who has been with AON since 2005, holding senior leadership roles within ARS EMEA and Aon Global Risk Consulting as well as leading ARS UK.
