More and more Poles are switching to a bicycle or scooter, which unfortunately also means an increasing number of accidents involving such means of transport. This is why the largest Polish insurer offered its clients additional protection. PZU will cover material and personal damages caused by holders of motor third party liability insurance as a result of using the bicycle and other personal transport devices (UTO).
Tomasz Piekarski, motor insurance director at PZU, said:
"We have been seeing a change in the behavior of Poles for a long time. This is especially true of larger towns. The pandemic only accelerated the process. Traffic jams in front of lights on bicycle paths are normal. We are happy to use bikes and scooters, but hardly anyone remembers to protect ourselves in the event of damage during a ride. Thanks to the addition to the third party liability insurance, we also extend the protection to incidents caused while driving the UTO."
OC UTO operates throughout Poland. The insurance covers the owner and co-owner of the vehicle covered by the third party liability agreement, as well as the lessee and the borrower. The sum insured is PLN 5,000 per accident, regardless of the number of victims.
Tomasz Piekarski added:
"By introducing the UTO liability insurance, we provide additional protection to millions of PZU clients. Thus, we provide our clients with peace and security, regardless of the situation in which they find themselves."
Work is currently underway on the draft amendments to the Road Traffic Law, which will regulate the legal status of the UTO. After the entry into force of the law, electric scooters will be treated as vehicles.
