POLAND: Rankomat: The average price of third-party liability insurance rises 19.7% in the first quarter

8 April 2025 — Marina MAGNAVAL
In the first quarter of this year, the price of third-party liability insurance for motor vehicle owners was on average PLN 118 higher than in the same period of 2024. In some regions, price increases even exceeded PLN 150, as data collected by Rankomat show, Gazeta Ubezpieczeniowa (Insurance Gazette) writes.

The average rate increased by 19.7% y-o-y to PLN 688 (~EUR 165), although in some regions and cities the increases amounted to almost 25%. On the other hand, compared to 4Q2024, the price in January-March was 0.9% lower, which is the first decrease in seven quarters.

It is noted that average MTPL prices grew dynamically in 2015-2017. During this period, the largest increases were recorded in 1Q2017 (+57.5% y-o-y). The average premium began to decline only at the end of 2017, and it fell quarterly until 2023. Then it rose regularly again until the end of 2024.

“Insurers are researching the market and looking for an optimal pricing strategy. In the long term, we expect further increases. This is impacted by the market situation, in which insurers pay out more, and the costs of insurance service and loss adjustment are also growing”, explained Bartosz Niewiadomski, president of the management board of Rankomat.
