PZU's MTPL policyholders will benefit from a supplement to their insurance consisting in an additional coverage for the material and personal damages caused by the insured while using a bicycle or other personal transport devices as light electric vehicles.

As PZU emphasizes, currently more and more drivers own a bicycle or scooter, which means more accidents involving such means of transport. Tomasz PIEKARSKI, director of motor insurance at PZU, says:

"We have been seeing a change in the behavior of Poles for a long time. This is especially true for larger towns. The pandemic only accelerated the process. Traffic jams in front of lights on bicycle paths are normal. We are happy to use bikes and scooters, but hardly anyone remembers to get protection in the event of damage during a ride. Thanks to the addition to the civil liability insurance, we extend the protection also to incidents caused while using personal transport devices (Polish acronym UTO)."

OC UTO operates throughout Poland. The insurance covers the owner and co-owner of the vehicle covered by the third-party liability agreement, as well as the lessee and the borrower. The guaranteed sum of the insurance is PLN 5,000 for one accident, regardless of the number of victims. Tomasz PIEKARSKI adds:

"By introducing the MTPL UTO, we provide additional protection to millions of PZU customers. Thus, we provide our clients with peace and security, regardless of the situation in which they find themselves. "

In Poland, a draft amendment to the Road Traffic Law, which will regulate the legal status of the UTO, is in preparation. After the entry into force of the law, electric scooters will be treated as vehicles.
