26 February 2025 — Daniela GHETU

The cost of vehicle repairs covered by MTPL insurance has continued to rise steadily over the past four years, according to a recent study by the Romanian Motor Insurers’ Bureau (BAAR) based on using data from the Audatex platform, incorporating over 650,000 repair estimates from service shops across Romania.

The study examined key cost trends, including:

  • Age segmentation of vehicles involved in MTPL claims.
  • Evolution of average replacement part costs by car brand.
  • Regional distribution of repair costs in 2024.

Key Findings:

  • The total cost of repairs has increased across all vehicle age groups, with the highest share of claims (46%) coming from vehicles older than 10 years.
  • Among these, 24% of vehicles fall within the 11-15 year age range.
  • Alba County recorded the highest average replacement part cost at 9,353 lei (excl. VAT), followed by Caraș-Severin (8,608 lei) and Bistrița-Năsăud (8,435 lei).
  • Premium German brands lead repair costs, with Mercedes (8,942 lei), BMW (8,667 lei), and Audi (8,325 lei) topping the list.

BAAR will continue to publish market analyses, highlighting cost trends that impact MTPL claim payouts and insurance pricing.
