In 2020, insurers member of UNSAR (the National Union of Insurance and Reinsurance Companies in Romania) paid aggregate claims of over RON 11 million (~EUR 2.2 million) for the 50 largest claims related to home insurance - up by 16% compared with from 2019, two thirds of these claims being caused by fires, according to data published by the association, 1asig.ro informed here.

Thus, according to the UNSAR analysis, the risk that generated the largest compensation was fire (over RON 9.1 million, up by 11% compared to 2019), followed by landslides (over RON 700 k, up by 54%) and floods (over RON 580 k, increasing by 13%).

"Fires remain a major threat to our homes. However, there are other risks that cause significant losses, and we should be aware of, such as floods, theft or thunderstorms, etc. Therefore, home and goods insurance solutions will always make a difference in the event of an unforeseen situation", said Adrian MARIN, President of UNSAR.
