Romanian insurers extend travel coverage for clients stranded in the Middle East

Several insurers operating in Romania have decided to extend travel insurance policies at no additional cost for Romanian travellers stranded in the Middle East due to the ongoing regional conflict and widespread airspace disruptions.

Assistance providers Mondial Assistance and AXA Romania announced that travel policies due to expire will be extended without a fixed deadline and without additional charges for Romanians unable to return home because of the conflict.

Other insurers have adopted similar measures. Colonnade Insurance Romania confirmed it will automatically extend travel policies by seven days, while Eurolife FFH will extend coverage by up to 10 days for customers located in countries affected by flight restrictions, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Jordan and Israel.

Meanwhile, Romania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania said it is monitoring around 16,000 Romanian citizens in the Middle East, with roughly 3,000 requesting assistance for repatriation, as air strikes and drone attacks continue to affect several countries in the region.
