Albanian insurers wrote gross premiums worth EUR 130.80 million, 10.45% up y-o-y in 1H2025. The double-digit growth rate is partly owed to the about appreciation of the Albanian Lek. In local currency, the market growth was 8%.
Life insurance continued to hold just a small share in the market portfolio, of about 9%, although GWP for this segment rose by almost 15% (in euro). As such, non-life insurance classes remain dominant. Motor insurance classes – in particular MTPL insurance -, remained not only the market segments with the largest share in the portfolio, but also the market drivers, providing for about 67% of the market growth in absolute terms.
The pronounced dependence on motor classes is visible also on the paid claims side. Overall, Albanian insurers have paid claims worth EUR 41.71 million, a value almost unchanged y-o-y. However, this stable figure was achieved as a result of balancing the 9% growth in the claims paid for motor insurance, with the almost 43% decrease of the payments for property insurance.
The largest insurers in the country in terms of GWP were Albsig jeta (35% market share), which took over the leading position on the life insurance segment from SIGAL LIFE UNIQA (31.8% market share), while SIGAL UNIQA ranked first in the non-life insurance ranking – 26% market share.
