Albanian insurers ended 2025 with gross written premiums (GWP) worth ALL 27,090 million (EUR 279.94 million), or 10.54% more than in 2024. During 2025, the number of insurance contracts concluded reached 1,676,640 with an increase of 5.07% compared to the same period a year earlier, data provided by the market bodies show.

Non-Life insurance remained the dominant segment, providing for about 91% of the market GWP, while Life insurance slightly increased its share, by about 0.5 percentage points, to almost 9%, while reinsurance business accounted for 0.025%. By type of insurance, voluntary business represents 37.62% of total gross written premiums, while compulsory insurance dominates the market with 62.38%.

During 2025, gross claims paid in the insurance market amounted to around ALL 8,591 million (EUR 88.77 million), which is an amount fairly equal to that of the previous year.

Gross claims paid in motor insurance for 2025 amounted to ALL 6,537 million (EUR 67.55 million), an increase of about 4.78% y-o-y.

Domestic Mandatory MTPL (DMTPL) was the non-life business line recording the best dynamic, with GWP growing y-o-y by 13.3%, to ALL 14.37 billion (EUR 148.5 million), while the entire motor insurance segment’s business grew by 12% y-o-y. As the overall number of contracts for DMTPL increased by only 6.85%, it seems that at least a part of the market growth came from increasing prices.

Similarly, while GWP for Green Card insurance went up by 8.2%, the number of contracts actually decreased by almost 4%.

Voluntary insurance premiums reached about ALL 10,191 million, 7.88% more y-o-y, while the number of voluntary insurance contracts increased by 10%. On the Non-Life side, voluntary insurance premiums grew by 5.20%.

Among voluntary classes, Fire and Natural Forces insurance saw the best growth rate, GWP increasing by 10.25%, while the number of contracts grew by 8.85%.
