Bulgarian insurance market reported FY2025 GWP worth BGN 5.25 billion (EUR 2.68 billion), up 12% y-o-y, according to the official data published by the Financial Supervisory Commission. Life insurers' GWP increased by 11.36% to BGN 870 million, while non-life insurers' GWP rose by 12.16% to BGN 4.38 billion. Overall, the portfolio structure remained almost unchanged.

Property insurance GWP saw a 24.3% y-o-y increase, to BGN 542.13 million (EUR 277.2 million). However, claims paid for this line of business doubled as compared with 2024, reaching BGN 176.8 million (EUR 108.4 million).

Overall, paid claims by insurers amounted to BGN 2.54 billion (~EUR 1.3 billion), up y-o-y by 25%, driven mainly by the motor insurance lines which saw a 28.5% increase, mostly owed to increasing claims expenses for MTPL insurance.

In terms of premiums, DZI Life remained the biggest player on the life insurance market with GWP of BGN 256.11 million (market share 29.44%), while on the non-life segment, EUROINS leads the ranking, with a 14% market share, up y-o-y by about 3 percentage points.
