3 March 2025 — Daniela GHETU

The CEE insurers wrote gross premiums worth EUR 39.93 billion, by 10.59% more y-o-y in 3Q2024. At the same time, claims paid totaled more than EUR 20 billion (EUR 19.24 billion not including data for Kosovo, Romania and Slovenia, as not available).

Except for Slovenia, which still is under the impact of the abolition of the voluntary supplementary health insurance provided by commercial insurers by the Government and its replacement with a mandatory health contribution managed by the public Health insurance institute of Slovenia, all the CEE market recorded a positive dynamic, in many cases at a double-digit pace.

Poland’s share in the regional GWP increased by almost 3 percentage points y-o-y, given the high growth rate reported by the market, much above the regional average.

In the SEE, the 32.16% growth rate reported by the Turkish market drove the overall SEE GWP figures toward a high growth rate, of 25,75%.

Life insurance recorded a regional growth of 8.9% y-o-y in the CEE, while 6 of the 17 markets in the region recorded a double-digit increase in this business segment. In the SEE, Türkiye saw the highest life insurance growth, of 33.33% y-o-y.

Non-life GWP across the CEE region reached EUR 29.62 billion, accounting for about 74% of the regional insurance business. At regional level, as well as in 9 of the 17 markets in the region, non-life saw a higher growth pace than the life insurance segment.
