According to data provided by the Croatian Financial Services Supervisory Agency (HANFA), the 14 insurance companies operating on the market reported total premium collected in Q1 2025 of EUR 493 million, of which EUR 76.8 million (-1.12% y-o-y) related to life insurance premium and EUR 416.15 million (+11.21% y-o-y) to non-life insurance premium.
It is worth noting that since January 1st, 2023. Premium paid is reported instead of the Written Gross Premium.
The structure of the non-life insurance premium collected is dominated by motor vehicle liability insurance (29.55% of the total market collected premiums), followed by insurance of land vehicles (16.45%) and insurance against fire and natural disasters (8.2%).
The amount of claims settled in the first quarter of 2025 reached EUR 294.9 million. EUR 85.95 million of this amount related to life insurance, while EUR 209 million related to non-life insurance (70.8% of total claims paid).
Within the total amount of claims settled in non-life insurance, the largest amounts related to motor vehicle liability insurance (29.85%), insurance of land vehicles (14.85%), and insurance against fire and natural disasters (5.23%).
Wiener osiguranje Vienna Insurance Group was the leading life insurers, with a market share of 15.81%, followed by AGRAM LIFE osiguranje and ALLIANZ Hrvatska (13.87% and 13.24% respectively).
On the non-life side, CROATIA osiguranje maintained its leading position (29.65% market share), followed by EUROHERC osiguranje and ADRIATIC OSIGURANJE, both with rather equal market shares, of little above 14.9%.
