In 1H2025, the insurance sector of Kazakhstan grew by 20.16%, reaching KZT 906.61 billion (EUR 1.48 billion), according to the data published by the National Bank. It is noteworthy that in euro the market result was negative (-0.50%) due to a great difference in exchange rates compared to the first half of last year.
The share of life insurance in the market portfolio increased to almost 37%, while the share of non-life insurance decreased to 63.28%. Growth rates of both segments at the end of the half-year were double-digit.
The largest insurance classes with double-digit shares in the market portfolio are pension annuity, property insurance, life insurance and motor insurance (Motor Hull and MTPL). Of these, the highest growth rate was recorded by pension annuity (+33.82%), which is especially relevant in the context of the aging population, unstable employment, spread of self-employment and growing informal sector. Property insurance grew the least (+4.54%).
Insurers' paid claims rose by 38.68%, reaching KZT 207.94 billion (EUR 341.12 million). Among the key insurance classes, property insurance recorded the highest growth rate of paid claims (+92.38%).
Of the 25 insurers active on the market as of the end of the first half of 2025, NOMAD LIFE ranked first in terms of GWP (KZT 140.49 billion), rising from fifth place a year earlier. Halyk-Life, which was the leader in the first half of last year, moved down to fourth place. Freedom Life and EURASIA ranked second and third, respectively.
