Kazakhstan's insurance sector grew by 15.70% in the first three quarters of 2025, reaching KZT 1.4 trillion, according to data published by the National Bank. Notably, due to exchange rate fluctuations compared to the same period last year, the market result in euro is negative (-3.74%/EUR 2.17 billion).
Among insurance classes, life insurance (almost 40%) and property insurance (15.36%) hold double-digit shares in the market premium portfolio. On the other hand, insurance of financial losses, GTPL, and MTPL recorded the highest growth rates (in local currency).
Total paid claims in the first three quarters amounted to KZT 323.84 billion (EUR 503.63 million), which is 34.42% more y-o-y. The largest contribution to paid claims were made by such classes as MTPL, property insurance, and life insurance.
According to the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Regulation and Development of Financial Market, insurance sector assets increased by 20.1% from January to September 2025 to KZT 3.8 trillion, primarily due to growth in insurance revenue and investments in securities. As of October 1, 2025, securities accounted for the largest share in assets – 71.5% (KZT 2.7 trillion).
Insurance sector liabilities increased by 21.0% to KZT 2.6 trillion in the first three quarters. Equity rose by 18.0% to KZT 1.1 trillion, primarily driven by increased net profit for the reporting period. Net profit of insurers from January to September 2025 amounted to KZT 222 billion.
As of October 1, 2025, the insurance sector of Kazakhstan was represented by 25 insurance companies, 10 of which were life insurance companies. In the overall ranking, NOMAD LIFE took first position (KZT 236.81 billion), while Freedom Life moved up to the second (KZT 176.52 billion), and HALYK-Life, which moved down from first position a year earlier to third, rounded out the top three.
