STATISTICS: MONTENEGRO FY2025: Motor insurance accounts for a higher share of total claims than of gross written premiums.

At the end of 2025, the insurance market of Montenegro totaled EUR 148.3 million, 10.5% more y-o-y, while the value of paid claims by insurers reached EUR 65.45 million, up by 9% y-o-y, according to the quarterly market data released by Insurance Supervision Agency.

Life insurers generated about 20.85% of total insurance market or EUR 30.9 million, up by 11.35% y-o-y, while the non-life insurance segment totaled EUR 117.37 million (10.3% up y-o-y).

Motor insurance lines were the main drivers of the growth both in GWP and paid claims terms. Mandatory MTPL accounts for 44% of the non-life premiums but generated 55% of the claims expenses. Motor Hull insurance line’s contribution is by far lower, of 11% of the non-life premiums and 14% of the paid claims. The pattern here seems to be that both classes have a bigger weight in claims terms than in premiums production.

Wiener Staedtische zivotno osiguranje is the largest life insurer in the country (46.2% market share) followed by GRAWE (24.5%) and Lovcen-zivotna osiguranja (24.07%). On the non-life side, Top 3 is formed by LOVCEN osiguranje (34.97%) SAVA (22.23%) and Uniqa nezivotno osiguranje (20.15%).
