STATISTICS:  MONTENEGRO Q1 2026: in an overall positive market trend, but claims increased faster than premiums

According to preliminary figures published by the Insurance Supervision Agency of Montenegro (ISA), the business of Montenegrin insurers increased by 6.18% y-o-y in the first quarter of 2026, reaching EUR 39.45 million.

Gross written premiums from non-life insurance totaled EUR 31.87 million in January-March 2026, up by 4.33% y-o-y, while the life insurance GWP totaled EUR 7.58 million, up by 14.7% y-o-y.

At the same time, total gross claims paid increased by 13.8% to EUR 16.36 million. Of this total, life indemnities amounted to EUR 3.81 million vs. EUR 3.18 million a year before, while non-life payments increased by 12.11% y-o-y to EUR 12.55 million mostly because of the 9.8% growth reported in motor insurance.

The statistics published by Montenegrin ISA comprises data from nine insurance companies operating in the country: four life and five non-life insurers. Wiener Stadtische zivotno osiguranje remains the largest life insurer with 50.78% market, while Lovcen osiguranje is the largest non-life insurer with a 31.9% market share.
