STATISTICS:  UKRAINE, 1Q2023: 68% of non-life paid claims are in motor insurance
According to the 1Q results, the insurance sector of Ukraine grew by 6.22% to UAH 10.11 billion, based on the data published by the National Bank. The market was supported by non-life insurance, while life insurance dropped by almost 13%.

Total assets of insurers as of March 31, 2023, amounted to UAH 69.4 billion. Assets of non-life insurers declined slightly in the quarter. Equity decreased to UAH 21.8 billion.

Paid claims in the first quarter of 2023 amounted to UAH 3.8 billion, including UAH 287 million for life insurance. The lion stake of non-life paid claims falls on Motor Hull (UAH 1.08 billion) and MTPL, Green Card (UAH 1.31 billion), and in life insurance - on accumulative life insurance (UAH 227.5 million).

Total liability of insurers for voluntary types amounted to UAH 5.6 trillion, for mandatory types - UAH 8.4 trillion. The liability of life insurers to customers at the end of the reporting period was UAH 160.6 billion.

The number of insurance companies in Ukraine is 115: 103 of them are non-life insurers and 12 are life insurers. In the ranking of non-life insurers, the leadership in terms of premiums belongs to UNIQA (UAH 797.05 million), followed by ARX by a small margin. Whereas the undisputed leader among life insurers is METLife, occupying over 57% of this market.
