STATISTICS: GREECE, 1H2020: Insurance market fell below the EUR 2 billion threshold at the end of June

10 September 2020 — Andrei Victor
At the end of June 2020, the Greek insurance market totaled EUR 1.93 billion, down by 4.5% y-o-y, according to the preliminary market figures published by the Hellenic Association of Insurance Companies (HAIC).

The non-life insurance segment slightly decreased by 0.5% y-o-y to EUR 1.04 billion, due the negative rates reported by Motor TPL and fire subclasses, while the life insurance business line decreased by almost 9% to EUR 886 million - influenced by the negative dynamic reported by the traditional life policies (-12.8%).

The market figures published by HAIC include the figures for 51 insurance companies of which 19 were active in life insurance (and accounted for 94.9% of the segment market's full data for 2019) and 43 were active in non-life insurance (99.9% market share).
