Kazakhstan's insurance sector grew by 7.12% in the first quarter of 2026, reaching KZT 473.27 billion (EUR 855.46 million), according to data published by the National Bank. Total paid claims rose by almost 33%, to KZT 121.40 billion (EUR 219.44 million).
The share of life insurance in the market portfolio increased to 41.70%, while the share of non-life insurance dropped from 67.29% to 58.30% in a year. Life insurance recorded double-digit growth in the first quarter, while non-life insurance, conversely, recorded a decline.
Among non-life insurance classes with double-digit market shares, it's worth noting a slight decline (-0.46%) in property insurance, an 11.84% increase in motor insurance—both Motor Hull and MTPL grew during the quarter, and a rapid increase of almost 76% in insurance of workers against accidents.
Insurers' paid claims for the first quarter of 2026 totaled AZN 121.4 billion, which indicates a 32.77% increase y-o-y. Insurers paid out the most in motor insurance (Motor Hull and MTPL summed)— KZT 37.10 billion, and life insurance (KZT 32.35 billion).
Of the 25 insurance companies in the market, NOMAD LIFE leads in terms of GWP (KZT 79.12 billion), while the previous leader, EURASIA, has fallen to second place (KZT 68.41 billion). Now HALYK Life rounds out the top three.
