STATISTICS: MOLDOVA, 1H2021: GWP increased by more than 29% y-o-y, while paid claims remained almost unchanged

In 1H2021, the insurance sector of Moldova recorded a GWP increase by more than 29% y-o-y, up to MDL 878.01 million (EUR 41.03 million).

At the same time, paid claims in MDL practically remained at the same level and amounted to MDL 306.73 million, as shown by the data published by the National Financial Market Commission.

The market remains non-life oriented - non-life insurance accounts for almost 95% of the total GWP. At the same time, the share of life insurance declined to 5.22% due to GWP y-o-y decline in this segment.

The largest share in the market portfolio continues to belong to motor insurance, in which insurers generated MDL 577.06 million. Property insurance is in second place, with GWP having jumped by almost 88% compared to the first half of 2020.

Insurance paid claims saw a decrease in non-life insurance by 2%, while in life insurance, on the contrary, increased by 43%.

Out of 10 active insurers, the overall ranking, as well as non-life insurance ranking, is headed by ASTERRA GRUP. The life insurance ranking is represented by only one insurer - GRAWE CARAT ASIGURARI. At the same time, the company ranks second in the overall ranking on the market.
