STATISTICS: MOLDOVA, FY2025: Pre-tax profit amounted to just 24% of the previous year's figure

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, Moldova's insurance sector reached MDL 3,351.20 million (EUR 169.60 million) by the end of 2025, which represents a 3.06% increase y-o-y.

Meanwhile, paid claims grew at a faster pace, by 16.33%, reaching MDL 1,492.93 million (EUR 75.55 million). Against this backdrop, the sector's profit contracted approximately 4.2-fold, falling to MDL 83.1 million, the National Bureau of Statistics reports.

The bulk of the market premiums is generated by non-life insurance, totaling MDL 3,240.63 million (+3.08%). Life insurance continues to hold a negligible share of the market, standing at MDL 110.57 million (+2.67%).

The most notable growth was recorded in property insurance, which increased by 21% to reach MDL 463.19 million. Motor Hull also rose by 14.20%, and health insurance—by 6.38%. Conversely, mandatory motor insurance (MTPL and Green Card) saw a decline, with premiums contracting by 4.57%.

Despite the GWP growth, paid claims across most lines of business also increased. For instance, MTPL paid claims rose by 26.11%, health insurance paid claims grew by 19.45%, and Motor Hull - by nearly 12%. This placed some pressure on the financial results of insurance companies.

Overall, total revenue of the insurance sector in 2025 amounted to MDL 5.7 billion (+1.1%), while expenses grew at a faster pace, rising to MDL 5.6 billion (+6.2%). In particular, expenses related to insurance activities increased by 5.7%.

As a result, profit before tax declined from MDL 349.5 million in 2024 to MDL 83.1 million in 2025, representing only 23.8% of the previous year's level.
