In 2025, 739 agricultural enterprises from various regions of Ukraine signed up for index insurance, insuring approximately 1 million hectares of crops. Compared to 2024, the insured land has almost doubled (last year it was 502,000 hectares).
Most claims came from the southeastern and central regions, where drought and heat caused the greatest crop losses. In the damage structure drought caused 59% of insurance claims from farmers, while heatwaves caused 41%. "For the second year in a row, drought and high temperatures have become the main factors causing damage to Ukrainian farmers", said Ruslan Zimovets, head of the agricultural insurance department at INGO.
According to agricultural producers, insurance payments have become critical for maintaining financial stability and production plans. It is noted that over the 10 years of its existence, the "Meteoprotection" program has evolved from an experimental approach into a standard risk management tool. This is also evidenced by the fact that the number of agricultural enterprises in the program has almost doubled in one year, the source added.
