UKRAINE: In 2024, 38.5% of road accidents were settled using European Accident Statement

19 February 2025 — Marina MAGNAVAL
In 2024, 38.5% of road accidents in Ukraine were settled using the European Accident Statement, which is 6.5% more y-o-y. This confirms growing popularity of the European Accident Statement among drivers, Forinsurer writes with reference to the MTIBU (Motor Transport Insurance Bureau of Ukraine) report.

Until 2025, there was a limit on the maximum payment - no more than UAH 80 thousand. The new law on MTPL has abolished this limit: for contracts concluded in 2024, maximum payment has been increased to UAH 160 thousand, and for contracts concluded in 2025 - to UAH 250 thousand (~EUR 5740). This means that drivers can use the European Accident Statement without restrictions on the amount of material damage when accidents meet the terms for its use.

Popularity of the electronic European Accident Statement is steadily growing - in 2024, 36% of road accident reports were processed electronically, which is 50% more y-o-y. The electronic European Accident Statement has been in operation in Ukraine since 2017. The dynamics of its use demonstrates significant growth: 658 accidents were recorded in 2018, 1,621 in 2019, 4,628 in 2020, 4,628 in 2021, 666 in 2022, 13,032 in 2023, and 19,953 in 2024. A total of 50,793 road accidents have been settled since 2018.
