In 2022 there was a decrease in the number of payments associated with the first months of the military aggression, so a more correct basis for comparison is the same period in 2021, the MTIBU press release says.
The most important item of regulatory payments from the Fund is for damage caused by owners of uninsured vehicles (who caused accidents without having a valid MTPL policy) - 65.1% in quantity and 69.3% in amount. Compared to the corresponding period in 2021, the number of such payments increased by 12.1%, the amount by 66.7%, this trend is intensifying due to the socio-economic consequences of the war. The number of such payments reached 3.7 thousand, the amount – UAH 226.3 million (+60.6%).
The number of payments made for drivers of preferential categories was almost 1 thousand, the amount – UAH 60 million. Compared to the same period in 2021, the number of payments decreased by 6.6%, but the amount increased by 61.8%. The share of payments for such drivers is 17.3% in terms of quantity and 18.4% in terms of the amount.
“Because of the war, the number of our citizens who have the preferential right not to buy MTPL policies is constantly increasing. According to the Ministry of Veteran Affairs of Ukraine, the status of a war participant or combatant has been granted to more than 730 thousand people, and according to preliminary estimates of the Ministry, at the end of the war the number of veterans and persons equivalent to them will exceed 2.4 million. Therefore, this factor will continue to impact the corresponding payments from the MTIBU Victim Protection Fund”, commented the General Director of MTIBU (Motor (Transport) Bureau of Ukraine) Olexander Bernazyuk.
The head of the Bureau assured that MTIBU has enough funds to fulfill all guaranteed obligations for regulatory payments.
