It is noted that the new law has laid a foundation for a comprehensive model of citizen support, combining mandatory and voluntary types of insurance coverage, and has already attracted attention of international experts and specialized organizations.
According to estimates, the social insurance system is planned to cover approximately 2 million employees of the public sector, over 3.5 million individuals employed in the private sector, as well as over 7 million individual entrepreneurs, self-employed, and individuals working outside the formal sector. The Social Insurance Fund is expected to proactively provide maternity benefits to nearly 180,000 insured individuals in 2026. Approximately UZS 3.5 trillion is planned to lash out on these purposes.
The law was drafted with consideration of key conventions of the International Labor Organization, reflecting Uzbekistan's gradual transition to generally accepted international approaches in social protection.
