UZBEKISTAN: State health insurance system launched in Tashkent and Syrdarya region

A state health insurance system has been launched in Tashkent and Syrdarya region since October 1. The document on its introduction was signed by the President of Uzbekistan in early September, Gazeta.uz reports.

It is noted that a full inventory has been conducted and a budget has been approved to equip all medical institutions in three regions: Tashkent, Syrdarya region and Karakalpakstan. Implementation of the medical information system is planned to be completed by the end of 2024.

According to Eldor Adilov, Director of the “Health Project Center”, the state health insurance budget is still being formed. According to preliminary estimates, for Syrdarya region it will amount to about UZS 1 trillion (~EUR 72 million), for Tashkent - about UZS 2.5 trillion (~EUR 180 million).

The implementation of the state health insurance system will be phased and will take about two years. In the Republic of Karakalpakstan, it is planned to be implemented from January 1, 2025, and in other regions by the end of 2026.
