STATISTICS:  UKRAINE, 1Q2025: insurers' activities remained stable, and the sector was profitable

The Ukrainian insurance market grew by 32.87% to UAH 15.40 billion (EUR 344.33 million) in 1Q2025, including UAH 1.40 billion collected in life insurance and UAH 14.00 billion in non-life insurance, according to data published by the National Bank (NBU).

Non-life insurance premiums increased by 36% y-o-y. The growth was driven by MTPL, which rose significantly due to a rise in the cost of policies after transition to free pricing.

Paid claims on the market grew in both segments, amounting to UAH 5.80 billion in total (EUR 129.68 million). In life insurance, insurers paid out UAH 392.09 million, while in non-life insurance, paid claims reached UAH 5.41 billion.

Overall, the insurers' activity remained stable, and the sector was profitable, as noted by the NBU. The level of non-life paid claims was 40%, while in life insurance - 27%. The net financial result of insurers amounted to UAH 1.2 billion.

Insurers' assets grew by 6% to UAH 77 billion. Non-life assets grew by 16% y-o-y, while life insurance assets grew by 12% y-o-y. The sector's asset concentration remained stable, only on the life insurance market the largest insurer’s share exceeded 50%.

Total net profit of non-life insurers in 1Q was UAH 950 million, which is 15% more y-o-y. Return on equity increased to 5.2%. Life insurers made a profit at the level of previous years – UAH 250 million.

In the non-life insurance segment, TAS continues to lead in terms of GWP (UAH 1.46 billion), followed by ARX and UNIQA. In the life insurance segment, MetLife leads with a share of 51.03% of the segment.
